Job Description Summary

Michigan Tech’s next Campus Visit Coordinator will be the welcoming face more than 2,500 prospective students see when arriving for campus tours and special visit programs each year. The ideal candidate will be incredibly organized, well spoken and friendly, and have the enthusiasm and drive necessary to continue Michigan Tech’s tradition of having one of the best visit programs in the country. In addition to giving daily presentations to groups of all sizes and planning and coordinating large-scale recruitment events, you’ll manage a recruitment territory and assist homeschool students with the application and enrollment process. The ability to solve problems before they happen and interface with prospective students, parents, and counselors, faculty, and academic advisors is a must.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Coordinate a unique and distinct campus visit program including hiring, training, and supervising 20+ student tour guides.
2. Collaborate with academic departments and address concerns regarding departmental representation during the campus tour and recruitment events.
3. Select, hire, train, and supervise the Campus Visit Coordinator–a student position responsible for day-to-day preparation for visitors and events.
4. Plan and coordinate large-scale annual campus-wide recruitment events such as Open House, Preview Day, Transfer Student Visit Days, and other specialty visit programs.
5. Develop and give daily recruitment presentations to small and large groups.
6. Interview, select, and mentor current students to serve as student ambassador presenters at key recruitment programs.
7. Assist in the development of campus visit experience communications and publications, including writing, editing, and proofreading text for print and web.
8. Assist in the coordination and preparation of virtual campus tours via social media such as Facebook Live.
9. Assist departments with on-campus programming for prospective students, including special tours and other visit requests.
10. Serve as the liaison to Housing and Residential Life for the Husky Host program.
11. Serve as the liaison to Transportation Services regarding parking procedures for campus visitors.
12. Assist in the coordination and planning of recruitment-oriented group visits to campus.
13. Manage an assigned recruitment territory in the Upper Peninsula, including planning and travelling to high schools and regional/national college fairs as needed.
14. Assist and educate homeschooled students and parents on the admission and enrollment process.
15. Regularly correspond with students, parents, principals, high school counselors, and other school personnel.
16. Review and process applications for admission.
17. Verify and approve student staff hours for bi-weekly payroll.
18. Travel through the region, state, and country as needed.
19. Participate in conferences, workshops, and meetings that provide information or opportunities to assist in improving or increasing the effectiveness of recruiting and enrolling a diverse group of students.
20. Take an active role in staying current with Michigan Tech news and events, facts, figures, degree programs, and related institutional information.
21. Contribute creative and innovative ideas and recommendations for the development and implementation of admissions recruitment programs.
22. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
23. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
24. Functional supervision exists over student tour guides and assistants.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor’s degree

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Experience working in undergraduate admissions, higher education student services, or closely related area.
• Experience planning and coordinating events or large-scale projects.
• Experience using computers and advanced features of word processing, spreadsheet/database software, and PowerPoint.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Master’s degree
• Two years’ experience working in undergraduate admissions, higher education student services, or closely related area.
• Working knowledge of undergraduate admissions and recruitment practices at a four-year institution.
• Understanding of financial aid practices within higher education.
• Experience supervising student staff.
• Experience working with high school students.
• Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of people.

• Possession of a valid driver’s license and demonstrated ability to comply with Michigan Tech vehicle use requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to use judgment when dealing with confidential information.
• Positive attitude toward innovation, creativity, and a sense of humor.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
