Job Description Summary

Michigan Technological University is bolstering its strength in water-related research and educational programs with a new faculty position that may reside in any academic unit. We solicit applications for a tenure-track position in oceanography/limnology with specific expertise in one or more of the following research approaches: laboratory and ship-based research; remote sensing; policy analysis; or large-scale computational modeling. The ability to conduct field or laboratory measurements and experimentation in addition to modeling skills will be viewed positively. The position is expected to be filled at the Assistant Professor level, but senior-level candidates with exceptional records will also be considered.

This position complements existing expertise in aquatic sciences, engineering, economics, and policy at the multidisciplinary Great Lakes Research Center (GLRC). The GLRC is a 50,000 sq. ft., $25M waterfront facility with state-of-the-art laboratories, marine facilities, and a supercomputer facility (see http://greatlakes.mtu.edu). In addition to pursuing and funding their own research, successful candidates will contribute to interdisciplinary studies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Conduct and lead independent and collaborative research. Pursue external funding to support research. Advise graduate students in research. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, the content of which to be determined based on which academic unit(s) the successful candidate is appointed.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

Earned doctorate at the time of application.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to publish her/his work in refereed publications, prior success in obtaining, or evidence of potential to secure, external funding, a commitment to a diverse community and excellence in undergraduate and graduate education.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

Postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred.
