Job Description Summary

The Graphic Design Specialist will create pieces, using a strong formal aesthetic, demonstrating design skills across a variety of formats. Projects will include visual design for publications, websites (mobile and desktop), and brand systems. They are passionate about details but still see the bigger picture. They tackle challenges with a positive attitude, ingenuity, generating ideas, and solutions that fit the problem at hand.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to define and deliver excellent design solutions.
2. Articulate and effectively communicate design concepts to team members and clients.
3. Participate with enthusiasm, in critiques and post mortems.
4. Coordinate with outside vendors if needed.
5. Confer with clients, editors, marketing personnel, and other project specifications such as paper stock, graphic content, layout, and media requirements.
6. Perform preparatory work such as layout, formatting, color correcting, and preparing computer files for printers or the web team.
7. Set up formats, style sheets, and assist with tracking and production of publications.
8. Maintain department files of completed assignments; maintain accurate logs of work in progress such as time devoted to project and materials used.
9. Evangelize branding policies set in place by University Marketing and Communications and the administration. Inform staff, other personnel and departments on university marketing styles and procedures.
10. Ability to work with minimal supervision, balance multiple projects while meeting deadlines in a fast paced environment is a must.
11. Active self-learner and willingness to learn from others to continually elevate your design craft.
12. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
13. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Experience using Mac and Windows and understanding of cross platform issues.
• Extensive knowledge of the Adobe Design Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, lnDesign, Acrobat.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• One (1) to four (4) years professional design experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

• Good interpersonal, organizational, and oral/written communications skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer generated graphic design programs
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill in graphic design techniques, layout, typography, color theory, and composition.
• Demonstrated knowledge of printing processes and file preparation for printing.
• Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with other team players
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work overtime hours
• Demonstrated ability designing web and mobile pages.
• Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Knowledge of working within marketing and branding campaigns
• Demonstrated ability in wireframing and UI design
• Working knowledge of HTML and CSS
• Demonstrated knowledge of photography
• Demonstrated knowledge of digital printing equipment and large format printing
• Experience working with Motion Graphics.
