Job Description Summary

Oversee the direction of the Varsity Nordic Skiing Program. Responsible for recruitment, scheduling, practice/event preparation, overseeing competition days, budget management, fundraising, travel logistics, and promotion of the programs. Assist AD to enhance internal and external visibility and recognition of the programs. Consult with auxiliary services on maintenance of Nordic Ski trail system. Teach activity classes in the Department of Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology (KIP).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Plan, organize and administer the university’s Nordic Skiing program
2. Direct the recruitment of Nordic Skiing student-athletes on a national basis
3. Collaborate with current coaching staff for Cross Country and Track & Field
4. Develop and implement Nordic skiing practice sessions, coordinating skiing staff to determine needs for individual and team improvement
5. Evaluate Michigan Tech and opposing team capabilities to determine meet strategy and manage / prepare team for competition; determine strategy during meets in consultation with coaching staff
6. Enhance and promote the internal and external visibility and recognition of the University and team to a variety of alumni, campus and off-campus groups
7. Actively participate in fund raising and alumni activities
8. Provide necessary resources to monitor and promote the academic success of student-athletes
9. Plan, develop and administer budgets
10. Represent and act on behalf of the University as directed by the Director of Athletics
11. Teach activity classes in the Department of KIP
12. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
13. Provide leadership to foster a culture of safety; promote safety through actions, communication, and training.
14. Administrative supervision is exercised over graduate assistant coaches and student assistants. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor’s Degree

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Experience playing and/or coaching nordic skiing at the collegiate level
• Experience planning, developing, and administering budgets
• Experience using personal computers and basic software packages
• Significant nordic skiing recruiting experience

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Head coaching experience
• Fund raising experience
