Job Description Summary

Perform a variety of duties involving maintenance of sanitary and safe utensils, service ware, equipment and work areas, and the receiving and delivering of purchased and prepared items as required. Perform in areas of food service to include customer service and food preparation as directed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Clean, sanitize, store, and distribute pots, pans, dishes and utensils.
2. Operate, clean, and maintain dishwashing equipment.
3. Maintain a clean, sanitized, and safe work area.
4. Perform work-place maintenance duties including mopping, scrubbing, emptying garbage cans, washing walls, garbage removal, cardboard recycling and other duties as assigned.
5. Perform food preparation, service, and cashiering duties as assigned including but not limited to salads, sweets, cold food, and hot food departments.
6. Understand and interpret recipes.
7. Operate electronic cash register and card readers.
8. Fill kitchen requests for food, supplies, equipment and utensils to be pulled from storage locations.
9. Assist in checking in and storing received goods in an orderly fashion, rotating stock and breaking down cases.
10. Perform catering duties including set-up, serving, delivering, cleaning, table service, and all aspects of clean-up.
11. Assist in the training, instruction, and oversight regular and student employees in assigned area(s).
12. Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
13. Participate in any training necessary to accommodate changes in operation which directly affect regular assigned duties.
14. Accurately count monthly physical inventory in assigned area(s).
15. Monitor quality and volume of supplies on hands in assigned work area(s).
16. Adhere to current uniform policy.
17. Will be required to work evenings and weekends.
18. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
19. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Functional supervision may be exercised over student assistants and other support staff

Required Education (minimum requirements)

• High School diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Two year experience working in a food service operation, with at least one year working with food production in a commercial, institutional, restaurant or hotel kitchen, or a similar food service operations.
• Applies food service sanitation certification, ServSafe, NEHA, and /or HACCP federal guideline certification, or an ability to obtain said certification.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, commons fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common senses understanding to carry out basic written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems in standardized situations.

The employee must regularly lifts and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally moving up to 100 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
