Job Description Summary

This position supports the needs of the Michigan Tech Testing Center.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Effectively communicate with students and instructors regarding testing expectations and schedules in person, by phone and by e-mail.
2. Assist with the administration of the testing center and coordination of scheduling exams.
3. Proctor both paper/pencil and computerized exams for Michigan Technological University courses, distance education courses, and sponsored exams.
4. Maintain a high level of security and confidentiality within the testing center and with testing materials.
5. Ability to work with minimal supervision, and balance multiple activities in a fast paced environment.
6. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
7. Scan and score multiple choice exams, and report results electronically to instructors.
8. Address questionable candidate behavior to enforce academic integrity.
9. Work some evenings and/or weekends as testing needs require.
10. Other duties as assigned.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

• High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• 1 year experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Google Mail, Google Docs, and Windows-based computers.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• 1 year of college.
• Experience proctoring paper/pencil and computerized exams.
• Experience with computerized testing through sponsored organizations.
• Experience working with students with accommodations or learning disabilities.
• Experience working with international students.
• Experience using scheduling software.
• Experience using bubble sheet scoring software.
• Experience with conflict resolution.

Language, Mathematical, and/or Reasoning Skills

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish acts, and draw valid conclusions.
