Job Description Summary

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan Tech, is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in civil engineering at the Assistant Professor level, however, other levels may be considered for exceptional candidates. Research areas of particular interest in civil infrastructure include: asset management, life cycle engineering, transportation, construction systems, project delivery, human factors and safety, and energy

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

• Teach graduate and undergraduate courses within the Department.
• Develop and maintain an externally-funded research program that complements and adds to existing University strengths.
• Supervise and mentor graduate students.
• Be involved in department, university, and professional service.
• Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
• Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

A Ph.D. in civil engineering or a closely related field is required.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Experience in research areas of particular interest in civil infrastructure include: asset management, life cycle engineering, transportation, construction systems, project delivery, human factors and safety, and energy.

Additional Information

The civil engineering program in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering graduates about 100 BSCE students and about 30 MSCE and Ph.D. students each year. Current civil engineering faculty conduct research in the areas of asset management, transportation systems, hazard mitigation and resiliency, traffic safety, life cycle engineering, system modeling, data mining, maintenance monitoring, remote sensing, materials, hydraulics, rail and multimodal transportation, cold-climate engineering, smart structures, and wind energy. The faculty have a close working relationship with the Michigan Department of Transportation, as well as the Michigan Tech Transportation Institute (MTTI), and the Michigan Tech Research Institute (MTRI) located in Ann Arbor, MI.
