Job Description Summary

The Department of Humanities at Michigan Technological University, located in Houghton, Michigan, invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition to begin Fall 2017.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in area of expertise.

Carry out program of research.

Perform department- and/or university-level service.

Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

Ph.D in rhetoric and composition or closely related field by August 1, 2017.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Record of excellent teaching and scholarly work in rhetoric and composition studies, broadly defined.

Desirable Education and/or Experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

Preferred candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: digital rhetorics, histories, and theories of rhetoric literacy studies, writing across the curriculum (WAC)/writing in the disciplines (WID), writing program administration, or writing center studies.

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting.
The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Additional Information

The department offers doctoral and master’s degrees in the interdisciplinary Rhetoric Theory, and Culture program and undergraduate major degrees in Scientific and Technical Communication; Communication, Culture, and Media; Liberal Arts; and English, including English with a concentration in Secondary Education. The usual tenure track teaching load is 2 courses (6 hrs.) per semester.
