Job Description Summary

Applications are invited for two tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level beginning in Spring 2017 or Fall 2017. Candidates are expected to have a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field and to demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research. We seek applicants with research interests in cyber-security or big data; exceptional candidates in other areas may apply.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Establish a robust research program, as evidenced by a strong publication record and external funding.
2. Advise graduate students at the MS and/or PhD level.
3. Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses, and assist in curricular evaluation and development. The typical teaching load for a position of this type is two courses for the first year and three courses per year thereafter.
4. Participate in service activities at the department, college, and University level, as well as to the appropriate professional organizations and societies.
5. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
6. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

A record of research and scholarship in computer science.

The ability to communicate effectively with students, professionals, and the general public.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

Experience teaching courses in computer science; post-doctoral research experience and training; successful development of competitive externally-funded grants.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

Ability to teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Demonstrated ability to conduct original research.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Research focused on: cybersecurity or big data

Ability to conduct collaborative research across disciplines

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting.
The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Additional Information

The Department has two undergraduate degree programs (Computer Science and Software Engineering) and graduate programs in Cybersecurity (M.S.) and Computer Science (an M.S. and Ph.D.). Faculty research interests include architecture, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data science, distributed systems, embedded and multimedia systems, graphics & visualization, human computer interaction, machine learning, software engineering, virtual environments, and wireless networks. In addition, the Department is a member of the university’s Alliance for Computing, Information & Automation and participates in several interdisciplinary initiatives, including the M.S. in Data Science graduate degree program.
