Job Description Summary

Coordinate extensive community string program sponsored by the Copper Country Suzuki Association (CCSA) and teach violin, viola, and/or cello in individual and group lessons.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Responsible for supervision of teaching staff, recruiting, fundraising, and general options.
2. Service as Strings teacher teaching string instruments to students age 4-18.
3. Manage the financial operations of CCSA (approximate annual budget of $120,000).
4. Manage 5-7 staff members.
5. Manage property including musical instruments and teaching space.
6. Manage public relations, including website and social media presence.
7. Grant writing and fundraising.
8. Manage contacts with students and families.
9. Responsible for staff recruiting.
10. Teach private and group lessons in violin, viola, and/or cello for beginning through advanced students.
11. Prepare students for recitals and performances.
12. Provide string sectionals and coaching for Keweenaw Youth Symphony Orchestra (KYSO) members when needed.
13. Assist in student recruiting activities.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Arts Administration.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• One year teaching experience in a private music lesson setting.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Master’s Degree in string education or performance.
• Experience in arts management demonstrating strong organizational/administrative skills.
• Teaching experience.
• Suzuki-method training (or willingness to be trained).
• Two years teaching experience in a private music lesson setting.

Additional Information

The Director reports both to the Department Chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Department and the CCSA Board of Directors.

The successful candidate for this position may have opportunities to collaborate with the Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra as well as opportunities to teach private lessons in violin/viola at Michigan Tech as part of the music lessons program (FA2570), pending necessary educational qualifications.
