Job Description Summary

Assist in providing students and alumni career exploration and development services; provide job search assistance for full-time, co-op and internship opportunities; promote relationships with employers to enhance recruitment; develop and oversee the mentoring program for students, develop and present on-campus and community workshops and seminars; coordinate assigned areas of unit operations and share in general responsibilities of the department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

• Advise and counsel students, alumni and prospective students in career exploration, development, and job search strategies, using a variety of methods/tools.
• Design, facilitate and evaluate activities and workshops regarding career preparation including resume and interview preparation, job-search strategies and experiential learning preparation.
• Maintain knowledge of hiring practices and trends.
• Plan and manage large scale projects, events, and publications, such as the volunteer program, job shadow program, educational programs, and career development material.
• Serve as liaison between employers and students to coordinate activities associated with career development and job search strategies.
• Assist employers in identifying degrees and majors that best meet staffing needs.
• Collaborate with on-campus colleges to integrate career development programming into the curriculum.
• Lead a team to develop programming for students with disabilities (including those on the Autism Spectrum): focus on developing communication, social, and career skills. Work with other focused programs on campus to ensure maximum effectiveness of the program.
• Integrate safety practices into daily activities.
• Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor’s degree

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Two years professional work experience in teaching, advising, or business in a leadership role.
• Experience working with students with disabilities, helping them develop specific skills and putting those skills into practice.
• Experience using personal computers and various software packages.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Master’s or Ph.D. degree in counseling, education, or related field.
• Experience administering and assessing career inventory results.
• Experience using career services related software and its application in a placement/career services environment.
• Experience counseling technical or engineering-related students.
• Experience counseling students in business, science and arts, and humanities academic areas.
• Experience developing a mentoring program, including operation of program.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

MBTI certified.
• Demonstrated ability to create new course curriculum including interactive lesson planning.
• Demonstrated ability to identify students who possess talents needed to fill open positions.
• Experience developing programming and curriculum for students with disabilities.

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting.
