Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for campus-wide coordination of pre-health experiential learning and admissions preparation for graduate health professions programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Support department academic advisors across campus who manage pre-health experiential learning (i.e. internships, job shadowing, etc.), with a focus on managing compliance issues related medical, health, and background checks.
2. Develop and manage memoranda of understanding and other agreements with partnering institutions that provide pre-health experiential learning in coordination with students, department academic advisors, and the Manager of Student Design/Academic Agreements.
3. Serve as a designated contact/liaison with Michigan State Police to permit finger printing when deemed necessary for the background check process.
4. Monitor and recommend best practices and software programs to facilitate background checks and other pre-health compliance issues.
5. Coordinate campus visits from Midwestern schools that offer graduate health professions programs including schools/colleges of medicine, dental, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, veterinary, chiropractic, pharmacy, optometry, and podiatry.
6. Develop and teach a one-credit university-wide course that focuses on job shadowing and clinical internships.
7. Develop and teach a one-credit university-wide course designed to prepare students for standardized tests (i.e., MCAT, GRE, etc.) and admissions process (PTCAS, AAMS, etc.) for graduate health professions programs.
8. Manage and oversee a campus-wide student listserv to announce relevant pre-health meetings and initiatives.
9. Advise student health professional organizations such as HOSA, Alpha Epsilon Delta Chapter, Phi Sigma Honor Society, Society of Medical Laboratory Scientists, etc.
10. Assist admissions, departments, and career services with student/parent visits and relevant university-wide events (i.e., Preview Day, Open House, Medical Careers Week, etc.).
11. Advise, inform, and assist students with getting involved in opportunities to build relationships, network, and develop “success skills” outside of academic courses.
12. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
13. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills and practices to everyday work.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

• Master’s degree in biological sciences, biomedical engineering, kinesiology, or related health-oriented field.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Prior experience working in academic environment or other complex organizations.
• Experience implementing new ideas and processes.
