Job Description Summary

Applications are invited for one or more lecturer positions in Engineering Fundamentals, home of the Michigan Tech first-year engineering program, and an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree program. Candidates with core expertise in engineering, physical sciences, biological sciences and/or with advanced degrees in STEM education are encouraged to apply and will receive full consideration. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations.

The anticipated start date is August 14, 2017. Initial appointment is anticipated at the Lecturer level, but exceptional candidates will be considered for appointment as Senior or Principal Lecturer or Professor of Practice.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

• Teach a variety of first-year engineering courses.
• Support the larger vision of the department by assisting with the design, development, and assessment of our common first-year program.
• Participate in STEM-education research and/or K-12 outreach.
• May play a leading role in the further development of our BSE degree program, including teaching duties therein.
• Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
• Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

MS in engineering, physical science, or biological science or comparable credentials, or Ph.D or EdD in STEM Education with an undergraduate or M.S. degree in engineering.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Advanced computer skills, particularly MATLAB.
• Demonstrated teaching ability.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Substantial coursework in a business discipline; M.S. in business; or an MBA
• Professional experience in engineering design, programming, data acquisition and control, and CAD software; Comprehensive teaching/curricular experience in the context of first-year engineering programs.

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
