Job Description Summary

The Department of Chemistry at Michigan Technological University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level beginning in the Fall of 2017. The position is for a Physical or Biophysical Chemist in the area of Theoretical Chemistry with expertise in Biomolecular Modeling. Particular attention will be given to applicants whose research focuses on protein-protein interactions, protein-ligand interactions, and enzyme reaction mechanisms.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Sustain a vigorous externally funded research program as PI and co_PI on proposals submitted to competitive funding agencies.

Work in an interdisciplinary environment.

Contribute to the teaching mission at the graduate (Ph.D. and M.S.) and undergraduate levels.

Support Department, College, and University service activities.

Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education (minimum requirements)

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biophysical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics or a closely related field.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Expertise in the development and application of molecular modeling methods including Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, and Molecular Dynamics with forces represented through both classical and quantum mechanics, e.g., QM/MM-MD.

Demonstrated ability to initiate and sustain a vigorous externally funded research program as PI and co-PI on proposals submitted to competitive funding agencies.

Previous university teaching experience is expected in Physical Chemistry or Chemical Physics, Cheminformatics, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry or some combination thereof.

A strong record of publications and a well-designed strategy for the development of an externally funded research program is essential.
